Chapter 1
1. Describe each of the characters
Going to be on characters page.
2. Who are the Soc's? Who are the Greasers?
The Soc's or the Social's are one of the two groups in this book, but they are one of the richer and meaner groups in this book. I say this because they are always making fun of the other group the Greaser's or yelling " Greaser" when they pass by. They also wreck houses and are always getting drunk, but worst of all the jump the Greasers. Jump is another word for beat up and they do it bad. Since they are from the West side, the Greasers call the Soc's rich. The Greaser's on the other hand are the poor kids, the East side kids, with the greasy hair and the baggy clothes, they always take a beating either at home or getting jumped by the Soc's.
3. How do Ponyboy's relationships with Darry and Sodapop differ?
Ponyboy's relationships with his brothers differs because Darry is a little harder on Ponyboy, expecting a lot of him. While Sodapop is nice, outgoing and always cool, he doesn't pressure Ponyboy to do things. Ponyboy says he like Soda more because Darry is so strict and Soda is an all over cool guy. But the only reason, well at least I think is because he wants to keep Pony together since their parents died. He just wants Pony to grow up as a responsible man.
4. Why is the 'gang' so important to Johnny?
The gang is so important to Johnny because at home his parents beat him, so when he hangs out with the 'gang' he, one gets to forget about what happen eds at home and two has someone or a lot of people to look up to as a roll model and someone to love and care for him. Johnny knows that if he needs to talk or need someone there will probably be someone in the 'gang' who will be there for him.
5. How does Ponyboy react to what Sodapop said about Darry?
When Sodapop said to Ponyboy that Darry is just hard on him because he worries a lot about him and what he does Ponyboy doesn't have much of a reaction. He just says that Soda was just saying that and that it just means he doesn't like him.
6. Do you think Darry loves Ponyboy? Why does he treat Ponyboy the way he does?
In my opinion, yes Darry does love Ponyboy, it's just he is very tough on him about his actions and decisions because of his intelligence. Even though he doesn't really treat Soda like that he still loves the boys equally. I think Darry treats Ponyboy this way because he is afraid he will lose him and since there parents died and Darry is the head of the house he is trying to keep the family together.
7. What does Ponyboy mean on page 8 when he says " I lie to myself all the time "?
Do you ever lie to yourself?
When Ponyboy says I lie to myself all the time he is refering to lie to himself about his family. He doesn't want to believe in loving Darry, but he really does love Darry. I think we have all lied to ourselves one time, I know I have to not believe in something I want to, stuff like that.

Ponyboy is explaining that he has a really good relationship with Johnny, so they could basically read each others minds in a situation. In that situation all they needed to do was look at each other to know what the other person meant. Yes, I kind of have been in a relationship where an action could replace words. With Family friends different actions like a smile or an eye twitch or a wink could mean different emotions.
